About the stones
Mahogany obsidian is volcanic glass with iron inclusions. Obsidian forms when lava cools too fast for its atoms to arrange into a lattice, so there's no crystal structure inside at all, just liquid rock stopped mid-motion. The reddish-brown patches and streaks come from iron oxide caught in the glass while it set, which is why the coloring runs in irregular clouds and bands rather than an even wash. Every bead cuts through that pattern differently. Some read almost black with one rust seam, others are mostly warm brown with dark freckling.
Smoky quartz is quartz colored by natural radiation. Silicon dioxide sitting in the ground near trace radioactive elements slowly darkens over geologic time from clear toward tan, brown and eventually near-black.

Mahogany obsidian — obsidian's root chakra, and the mahogany variety specifically helps energy flow and move from root to sacral.
