About the materials
Obsidian is volcanic glass, lava that cooled so fast the atoms never had time to arrange into a lattice, so what you're holding is liquid rock stopped mid-motion, with no crystal structure at all. That's why it takes such a wet, mirror-black polish.
Chevron amethyst is amethyst and milky white quartz grown in alternating V-shaped bands, the pattern left behind as growth zones stacked one on the next. Every bead cuts through those bands at a different angle, so some beads will show a full arrow, others a soft purple smudge with one white stripe. You'll also see this sold as "dream amethyst," which is a trade name for the same stone.
Amethyst's purple color comes from trace iron plus natural irradiation.
