About the stones
Cappuccino jasper is a trade name rather than a mineralogical one. The material is a banded brown jasper, and jasper is microcrystalline quartz with the crystals packed in sugar-like grains rather than the fibrous layers found in chalcedony. Jasper can carry up to a fifth of its volume in foreign material, which is where all its color and pattern come from. Here that means dark bands running through a grey-brown body, cut at a different angle in every bead. Some read nearly solid, others carry two or three clean stripes.
Black tourmaline, properly called schorl, is a boron silicate that grows in long striated prisms. Those lengthwise grooves are its signature and you can often still catch them on a polished bead under raking light. Schorl is pyroelectric and piezoelectric, developing an electrical charge under heat or pressure.
The rose gold beads are hematite with a coated finish. Hematite is iron oxide, and untreated it comes in a duller steel grey. The warm copper-pink here is a coating.
The focal bead is rainbow tiger's eye, which is the trade name for tiger's eye that has been color-treated into violets, blues and greens.
