What you get. The 44-card deck, the full-color guidebook, and the original hinged box. ISBN 978-1-4019-0606-1. Cover illustration by Ed Tadiello. Original cover price $15.95 USA. This is a preowned deck: the box shows edge and corner rubbing consistent with shelf and handling wear, visible in the photographs. The cards themselves are clean and the guidebook is intact. The deck is ready to shuffle out of the box with no assembly or replacement pieces needed.
About this printing. Hay House published this deck in 2005 and it has been out of print for years. Doreen Virtue converted to Christianity in 2017 and publicly renounced her entire new-age catalog, asking that people stop buying her decks. Hay House stopped reprinting. Two things followed: original copies became genuinely scarce, and unauthorized reprints started circulating. This genuine original printing carries the 2005 copyright line, the Hay House imprint, the Ed Tadiello cover credit, and "Printed in China" on the box back.
How the deck reads. Forty-four cards drawn from a range of illustrators, so the visual voice shifts card to card rather than holding one house style. Roughly half the deck is attributed to a general Guardian Angel rather than a named figure, which makes it read gently and broadly, better suited to open questions than to pointed ones. Seventeen cards feature named Catholic saints. The remaining cards cover God, Mother Mary, the Holy Spirit, Christ, and the archangels Michael and Raphael.
The box calls the deck nondenominational, but the imagery is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. Mother Teresa appears as a saint here, though she was beatified in 2003 and not canonized until 2016, eleven years after this deck went to press.
