About the deck and the art
The suits are renamed and color-coded, which makes the deck fast to sort at a glance. Roses carry Fire and stand in for Wands, bordered light red. Shells carry Water for Cups, sea-green. Wings carry Air for Swords, light blue. Gems carry Earth for Pentacles, yellow. Majors are bordered in lilac. Every card is printed with a keyword.
The Minor Arcana pips follow the older Continental approach: arranged suit symbols rather than a staged scene with figures. The printed keyword does the work a scene would otherwise do, and the guidebook entries are substantial. A reader trained to read RWS scenes will want to know that before buying. A reader who works with keyword and elemental logic will find the pips clean and quick.
The card stock is thin and flexible. It shuffles well, and it will show corner wear faster than a rigid deck. A bag and a gentle overhand shuffle are worth the small effort.
The guidebook is the real weight of this set. Beyond meanings and spreads it runs chapters on bringing love into your life, the origins of the tarot, and reading structure, including a section on what to do when the answer you drew is not the one you wanted.
Provenance and tradition
Amy Zerner and Monte Farber have been making divination systems together since the 1970s, with roughly three million copies of their books and kits in print across more than a dozen languages. Their Enchanted Tarot has been in circulation since 1990, and Farber's Karma Cards sold past 300,000 copies on its own. Zerner comes to the work as a fiber artist first; the tarot decks are an extension of a tapestry practice, which is unusual in a field dominated by illustration and, more recently, digital painting.
This deck was first published in 2006 by St. Martin's Press under the title True Love Tarot. It went out of print, and REDFeather reissued it in 2019 as the Enchanted Love Tarot with the suits renamed and the packaging rebuilt. The card art is the same body of work.
