Every working ends with the words that close it. “So mote it be” goes back to a Middle English verse on stonemasonry from around 1390, passed through Freemasonry into modern Witchcraft as the line that seals a ritual. This blend is the incense version of that line. Burn it when the intention is spoken, the work is done, and it’s time to lock it in.
What you get
- 20g of handmade loose incense in a jar, blended in-house at Keys to Manifestation in Lansing, Michigan
- Ingredients: frankincense, benzoin, dragon’s blood, cinnamon, bay laurel, orange peel, nutmeg
- Loose resin incense burns on a charcoal tablet in a heat-safe burner. It will not light on its own.
- Burning instructions are printed on the lid.
About the blend
This is a resin-forward blend. Frankincense and benzoin make up half the jar, and they carry the smoke and hold the scent together. Dragon’s blood, a deep red resin, is the smaller third resin. The botanicals ride on top: cinnamon and nutmeg for warmth, bay laurel for a clean herbal edge, and dried orange peel for brightness. Start with a pinch on a hot coal and add more as it burns down. A little goes a long way.
Because it’s handmade in small batches, the ratio of red resin flecks to bark and peel will vary a bit from jar to jar. The recipe doesn’t change.
Correspondences
The whole blend leans solar: Fire, the South, Sundays and the hour of the Sun.
- Frankincense is the priestly resin, ruled by the Sun and aligned with Fire and Spirit. It consecrates whatever it touches.
- Cinnamon is the bark of focused fire. It draws prosperity, sharpens the mind, and accelerates any working it joins.
- Dragon’s blood is the seal. It is said to increase the power of any ritual energy, and it has long been used to seal oaths, vows and sacred documents. It’s why this blend has the name it does.
- Bay laurel is the wish leaf. Writing a wish on a bay leaf and burning it is one of the most familiar manifestation acts in folk magic, and laurel has been the crown of victory since ancient Greece.
- Benzoin carries purification and prosperity and sweetens the resin base.
- Nutmeg is traditionally burned for luck.
- Orange peel brings solar success and a lift in mood.
The lid says it plainly: You said what you meant. Now get off your ass. Incense seals the working. Acting in accordance with it is still on you.
Who this is for
Witches and practitioners who want a closing incense for spell work, manifestation rituals, new moon intentions, success and prosperity workings, or consecrating tools. It’s also a good choice for anyone who likes warm spiced resin incense, and a funny gift for a friend who talks about their goals more than they chase them.
Contains cinnamon and nutmeg, which some people find irritating as smoke. Burn in a ventilated space, never leave burning charcoal unattended, and keep it away from children and pets.
