A devotional incense for the Bound Wolf. Fenrir's name translates to "fen-dweller," the one who runs in the morsh and the wild places. This blend smells of wet forest and bitter resin, with a low, musky earth underneath. It's hand-ground and blended in small batches in Lansing.
What you get
- 20 g of hand-blended loose incense in a glass jar
- Ingredients: agrimony, copal, dragon's blood, juniper, mugwort, myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, willow bark, yarrow
- Ready to burn on lit charcoal in a heatproof dish. Charcoal is sold separately.
About the blend
Agrimony is honored as the sacred herb of Angrboda, Fenrir's mother. Copal brightens the smoke for memories of freedom, while dragon's blood stands for the blood price of his binding. Mugwort is the dream herb, for the place where he still runs free, while myrrh brings in the grief and mourning. Juniper and willow bark, patchouli and vetiver, bringing in the forests and the marshes he used to roam. And a bit of yarrow, for the memory of the warrior's loss.
Texture and color vary from batch to batch and from the photograph. Shake the jar gently before opening to loosen up any sticky contents.
Provenance & tradition
Fenrir is the son of Loki and the jötunn Angrboða, brother to Hel and the World Serpent. In Snorri's Gylfaginning, the gods in Asgard come to fear a prophecy about Fenrir, and so they bind him with Gleipnir, a dwarf-made ribbon of impossible things. Tyr loses his hand as Fenrir is bound, given as a false pledge of good faith.
Fenrir is bound in Niflheim, on the island Lyngvi. A child bound for a prophecy he didn't even understand. Honor his ferocity and keep him company with this blend.
How to use
Light a charcoal disc in a heatproof dish and let it ash over. Add a small pinch. Sit with him a while; you can talk, offer your company, or just keep vigil. Pairs naturally with offerings of red meat or strong drink at the altar.
Who this is for
Lokeans, Rökkatru and Northern Tradition practitioners, and Heathens who honor Loki's children. Also anyone who keeps a wolf altar, works with their shadow and inner beast, or simply loves the big sad dog of the Norse myths. A thoughtful gift for any Fenrir devotee.
Never leave burning incense unattended. Burn in a ventilated space, away from children and pets. Contains mugwort; avoid if pregnant.
