Provenance and tradition
The Elder Futhark is a 24-character alphabet used across Germanic-speaking northern Europe from roughly the 2nd through 8th centuries CE. The full sequence in order survives on the Kylver stone from Gotland, dated to around 400 CE. The 24 divide into three groups of eight, called ættir.
The rune names commonly printed on reference cards are reconstructions. They're worked backward from three much later sources: the Anglo-Saxon, Old Norwegian, and Old Icelandic rune poems, none of which describe the Elder Futhark directly. Practitioners use those names, but they are not attestations from the period the alphabet was actually in use.
