Why the set rather than the pieces
The deck strips traditional tarot imagery down to line drawings and color. Nothing in the art pushes an interpretation at you, which experienced readers find freeing and which leaves everyone else without a handhold. The guidebook is the handhold. Sold apart, the deck is an incomplete product for most buyers; together, it's the whole thing.
The bag and cloth then solve the two problems the deck creates. Matte black edges and a soft-touch coating show wear as pale flecking, so the cards want protecting — and the bag is sized to take the deck still inside its magnetic box, plus the book, with room left. Deck, box, and guide travel as one unit. The cloth gives you a defined surface to lay on, which keeps cards off table grit and, more than you'd expect, sharpens focus.
About the altar cloth
Twenty-two inches square is generous — large enough for a full ten-card spread, large enough to fold in from the corners and wrap the deck for storage. The mandala is radially symmetrical: a central circled sigil, four petal forms, dotted rays to the corners. Walker designed it to guide card placement with or without a formal spread, and because nothing on it labels a position, it doesn't lock you into anyone's system. Celtic Cross, four-card elemental, single daily draw in the center circle — all fine.
Care
Both textiles: hand wash cold, lay flat to dry. Machine drying shrinks the weave and will lift silver foil. Store the cloth rolled or loosely folded to slow creasing along the foil lines.
Who this is for
The complete gift, and the complete beginning. Everything a new reader needs and nothing they'll have to come back for.
