About the stone
Fluorite, also called fluor spar, is calcium fluoride. It grows in cubes, octahedra, and massive forms, and it runs the entire color range: green, purple, blue, yellow, pink, and clear, often several in one specimen.
Green fluorite gets confused on sight with green aventurine, amazonite, and prehnite. Two things separate it. Fluorite is soft, Mohs 4, soft enough that a steel blade will mark it where quartz-family stones will mark the blade instead. It also breaks along flat octahedral cleavage planes, giving those clean angled faces rather than the shelly curved fracture of quartz. Softness has a care consequence: keep this piece off hard surfaces and away from other jewelry in a box, and it will not pick up scuffs.
