About the stone
Carnelian is chalcedony, which puts it in the quartz family, built from silica crystals so small you need magnification to resolve them. In chalcedony those microcrystals are laid down in fibrous layers, which is what separates it from jasper, where the same material packs in sugar-like grains instead. Iron oxide gives carnelian its color. The name comes from the kornel cherry, which the old lapidaries thought it matched.
The color range is genuinely wide, from pale orange through deep red-orange, and banding between shades occurs naturally.

Chalcedony, the parent family, vibrates to 9 and carries elemental Cancer and Sagittarius. It balances body, mind, emotion and spirit together.
