Challenge as Love

Tyr put his hand in the wolf's mouth knowing he'd lose it. But he would never have asked somebody else to pay that price.

Most of the hard right things we face on the day-to-day are a bit smaller than that. They look more like hard conversations ... that we keep putting off. The boundary that we allow loved ones to cross again and again. The promise we made before we realized what it would cost.

And we are remarkably good at finding reasons to put off paying the bill.

This fortnight, the Confident Witch Circle explores Tiwaz, the rune of honor, justice, and the true value of an oath. We'll also look at the uncomfortable truths that lie beneath. Doing the right thing is rarely easy, and how we handle that friction determines our integrity.

What we'll explore:

  • Tiwaz and Tyr. Honor, law, and the weight of your spoken word.
  • The binding of Fenrir – from both sides. One side doing the painful thing because it was believed to be right. The other bound out of fear and mistrust. Feels pertinent, doesn't it?
  • Accountability as an act of love. How to hold ourselves and others to account without shame. Why it's more important to challenge with love than to pretend everything is okay when it's not.
  • What the old laws say. Our religion actually has very specific guidelines on oaths and the cost of allowing harm through inaction.
  • A practice to take home. Small, specific, and yours to keep.
Never done this before?

Good. I made this for you, too.

I scheduled it for after the shop closes for the night so that it's quiet and we won't be interrupted. Come as you are; you don't need to know the runes first, or own your own witchy tools, or even have cracked open a book. You'll be in the room with others who are new as well as folks who've been studying and practicing for years. That mix is intentional; as we walk the spiral path, we learn new lessons even when we study familiar things. For new folks, that means you get to hear from the experiences of many teachers, not just one.

Sit wherever and however you're comfortable. Speak or stay quiet, it's up to you. (We're big on consent here.) Bring a notebook to take notes ... or just bring yourself.

The Confident Witch Circle

Confident Witch Circle is ongoing, initiatory-style training that happens to be open to everyone. You don't need to have made the last one, and you don't need to sign any contracts or call yourself anything in particular. Curious newcomers and longtime practitioners share the same space as the spiral path takes each of us through new layers of the same journey.

You'll walk out with a clearer understanding of where you're dodging your own hard right thing, as well as a way to face it in a way that builds trust. It's not always comfortable, but it's always worth it.

For students working toward Shield Wall certifications, this class counts toward the following badge:

  • Mentor / Litha — Challenge As Love

The spiral path brings these teachings to you in new ways with every pass. Bring what you know, and catch Solinox after class if you have questions about badge certifications.

Cost is a barrier for some. Reach out before you decide not to come, or if you'd like to sponsor a scholarship.
